Should I buy a Dreamcast?

I thought having another old game console would be kind of fun, I own a Nintendo 64, and its my favorite game console ever, more so than current gen consoles. And the Dreamcast looks like it has ALOT of good games on it, especially racers, and racing games are my favorite game genre. Sega GT, Test Drive Le Mans, Hydro Thunder (I actually have the N64 version of this, but the DC version looks a lot better). So is it still a good idea to buy a DC nowadays? What are its Pros and Cons? And what are it’s must have games, or at least ones you recommend? (I’m not a big fan of fighters, sports games, or shooters)

Buying a Dreamcast is one of the smartest things you can do with your money in this economy. Kudos to you for thinking about buying it! Here’s my Pro’s and Con’s:

Pro’s:
-Overall, a great library with more A+ titles than duds
-Possible to burn games to play on it (if you need help, you can email me and i’ll let you know how to do it)
-Good size…perfect for dorms and small entertainment set-ups
-Built in modem
-CPU structure is very streamlined compared to other DC era systems
-Most games support VMU mini-games
-Large homebrew community

Con’s:
-You have a modem, but it’ll be a b*tch to find a server that gamers use for online games
-If burning games, you are limited to 700 MB of space–all DC games are on GD-ROMS, which are 1.2 GB
-Disc lens reader is LOUD
-Does not support DVDs…but if you already have one, it shouldnt be a con, I use my PS2 personally
-Hard to find games for sale in most areas. Best places to look: Ebay, Craigslist, flea markets

The games you listed are pretty good. If I had to recommend one game out of those, it would be Sega GT. It was Sega’s answer to Gran Turismo. Another good racer is Star Wars Episode I Racer. As far as non-racers, I recommend Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, Crazy Taxi 1 & 2, Skies of Arcadia (if you are into RPGs), Sega Smash Pack, Tony Hawk 2, and San Francisco Rush 2049. There’s more but I like to keep my answers short and to the point.

IF you cannot find a DC, consider a PS2. They can play both PS1 and PS2 games, so if you were soley a Nintendo fanboy during the 32-bit wars, you can catch up on some AWESOME games…I still play the heck out of Final Fantasy VII and Colony Wars every now and then!
